• a young girl named Jai was traveling by boat with her father to attend her wedding. While crossing the lake
• a sudden storm arose and the boat capsized. The girl tragically drowned in the waters of Chilika.
• People believe that her spirit became a divine power and started protecting fishermen and travelers on the lake. Over time
• the locals began worshipping her as Goddess Kalijai. A temple was later built on the island
• and today devotees visit to seek blessings and protection.
